Mac OS X Tiger Launch Date Announced
Wowweeee!!! Apple have finally announced the launch date for Mac OS X Tiger, the most incredible operating system there could possibly be (for now, anyway). Tiger launches on Friday April 29 worldwide, and Apple are really being generous this time round.
They have completely glossed over their homepage in black, which I must say does look absolutely great, and there are loads of big savings to be made on buying Tiger. It will retail for £99/$129, but Apple are offering it for just £89, plus a free online seminar (Quicktime stream probably) to anyone who preorders it. It is also guaranteed that you will get your copy by the launch date this way. Great! But there's more - in the US only, it seems, you can buy Tiger bundled with iLife 05 and iWork for just $249. How do they do it? I'll just run through some of the main features of Tiger quickly, but you probably know about them already. Oh well:
iChat AV 3 Now supports Jabber, as well as AIM and .Mac - offers 4-way video chats (with H.264 compression) and 10-way audio chats.
Spotlight New computer search technology; just like the search in iTunes, instant results including emails, PDFs, images, contacts.....built right into the menu bar
Dashboard Konfabulator by Apple, basically. Stock prices, yellow pages, games, and even Stickies are now built into this single application.
They are the most interesting features in my opinion, but Safari now supports RSS, a new Automator feature for cross-application macros, Quicktime 7 and a completely revamped Mail program (yes, with Spotlight) also feature.
