Hitachi has invented perpendicular recording technology, which allowed them to achieve the highest density achieved to date- 230 gigabits per square inch. Hitachi may be able to increase its one-inch Microdrive's storage from 2 GB to 20 GB. Hitachi wants to introduce this technology into products by 2007.
